“Crazy!”

The big man who was intercepted by Ye Chen cursed and hustled straight towards Ye Chen.

Although Ye Chen has no cultivation base, she had practiced her swordsmanship for more than ten years in the Tian Jian Sect, plus this current body of her also had been practicing martial arts since childhood. The sword was unsheathed from her waist and hardly after blocking the opponent’s movements twice, she found the feeling. The tide of the battle shifted. She heard a distinct sound of breathing and went straight to the front of the pile of boxes. 

“Come out.”

Ye Chen, “……”

She knitted her brows and probed, “Kyle?”

The other party didn’t respond. He hung his head and covered the wound on his body. The hands under his sleeve were clenched into a fist and trembled slightly.

“Are you… My fiancée?”

His head was lowered and she couldn’t see his expression that was recalling something. 

Ye Chen replied, “Yes, I’m Ye Chen.”

She stretched out her hand to him, “Can you stand up? My left hand is injured, let’s go to the doctor together.”

The young man hummed. He lifted his hand and gathered his robe to cover his family crest. He clutched Ye Chen’s hand and pulled himself up with her strength, and stepped out of the box.

“HAHAHAHAHAHA,” 38 laughed histerically in her mind. “He is teasing you! Did you hear it? He is teasing you!”

Ye Chen certainly heard it.

She calmly drank a sip of milk and didn’t react. Though, the other party’s face was much thicker than she expected. Seeing that she didn’t answer, he continued,  “When I saw you, I thought, turns out, the person I am destined to be with is you.”

Ye Chen sprayed the mouthful of milk she had just drank. “Kyle” quickly avoided it, but half of his face was still splashed with the milk.

He was silent. Ye Chen hastily took out her handkerchief and wiped his face. “Wipe it, don’t take it to heart. I didn’t mean to… You wipe it first…”

“Kyle” was quiet. He grabbed the handkerchief, wiped his face clean, stood up, and left.

There was no word said during the whole process which made Ye Chen a little afraid.

“Is he angry?”

“Maybe.” 38 pondered, “He is thirteen years old. Maybe this is his first time flirting with a girl…”

“I seem to have hit his ego?”

“Mn…”

“What should I do?”

“I don’t know…”

“Ai, forget it.” 

He was gone, so he must not want to eat this bread! She quickly stuffed the bread into her mouth and stated, “I’ll just eat more to suppress my shock.”

Ye Chen drank up all the milk and ate the bread. 

After she was finished, “Kyle” had washed his face and walked in,

Ye Chen herself had finished washing. She tied her hair casually and put on a black robe. She was waiting for “Kyle”. 

When the other party walked in, Ye Chen started, “I want to discuss the itinerary with you…”

“I’m going to the Imperial Capital.”

A moment later, his hand slipped from her wrist and wrapped her palm.

It was getting a little dark but the market lights were on. She could see the blush on the young man’s fair cheeks.

With her hand on his, they left the market and strolled in the alley.

The alley was so quiet that both people thought that the other party could hear their own heartbeat. 

Ye Chen was beating herself inside. They were just holding hands, why did her heart beat faster?!

She didn’t know why, but when she looked at his back and felt the warmth on her hand, there was always a feeling that they had known each other for a long time.

Just like when she was with Gu Jianan and Jun Yan.

As if they were the same person. And in those strange worlds, they met again. 

The idea popped out and Ye Chen couldn’t resist the impulse to ask, “38, do you think it’s possible that all the Villains I have met are one person?”

Consequently, Ye Chen was finally clear with what a slaughter was and why mages were such a god-like existence that was admired in this world. 

Only half an hour and the grounds were littered with corpses. A beam of light penetrated the body of the last standing person. 

And the cause of it was staggering, leaning against the wall and panting heavily. He raised his head and smiled reluctantly at Ye Chen, “Can you please take me to a safe place, my beautiful lady?”

“Ah? Yes.”

Ye Chen carried him on her shoulder and brought him back to the hotel, “Would you like to see a doctor?”

“No need.”

He closed his eyes and explained weakly, “Every mage will have a period of weakness after using a giant magic array. I just need to rest for a while. ”

“Oh.” Ye Chen replied, a little distracted. She didn’t know how to speak her thoughts.

‘Brother, you are not the target of my task, so I am leaving.’? At least, she had carried him back to the hotel.

He was lying in the bed, studying Ye Chen’s expression, “Do you have anything to say?

“I…”

“May I beg you not to leave?” He interjected her. 

The other party’s expression was sincere, and his eyes were full of dependence,  “I need you.”

Ye Chen pursed her lips and eventually agreed, “Okay… I will wait for you to wake up.”

He nodded and closed his eyes wearily.

Ye Chen sat by his bed. After some time, she heard him request her, “Can you lie beside me, please? In this way, I will feel safer.”

He didn’t say it tactfully and Ye Chen understood that he was afraid that she would run away in the middle of the night.

So she stepped across him and lay down in bed. The bed was very large, enough for three people to sleep in. Even though Ye Chen slept beside him, it was still far enough from him. 

He reached out with his hand from under the quilt and grasped her hand. Ye Chen was taken aback. She heard him justify, “I am very relieved when I hold your hand.”

“You are a very good person,” his voice was drowsy, as if he was about to fall asleep at any moment, but didn’t dare to sleep. He insisted,  “I envy that person named Kyle. He must be very lucky to have a good fiancée like you. I don’t have a fiancée…”

He continued softly, “And I have no mother… No one will protect me. I must rely on myself…”

He didn’t know what was wrong with him. He just wanted to keep her beside him, but when he felt the girl’s warmth, he removed all his defenses.

He has never had such an experience, feeling so at ease and peaceful. 

Every time when he was like this, at his weakest point, he always felt afraid and uneasy. Before, others had told him that when he had his own knight, he wouldn’t feel uneasy anymore. He didn’t believe them.

Because he didn’t trust anyone. He wouldn’t entrust his life to another. But, today was different. This girl made him realize that it may be possible for him to do that. 

There was always such a person. A person who could make another let down all their defenses and show them their weaknesses.

He held her hand and felt a little unwilling. 

Why is it always Kyle…

Why do all the beautiful things and people in the world belong to Kyle?

He could destroy things without effort yet he also had all the best in the world. Everyone around him would devote themselves to death for him.

His former fiancée was like that, his former friend was like that.

And now, the girl that he just met was also like that.

He was unwilling.

He resented.

He was jealous.

Darkness filled his heart, and he trembled. Noticing him trembling, Ye Chen patted his back, “What’s the matter? Where is it uncomfortable?”

Her questions met with silence.

Ye Chen then added, “if you feel uncomfortable, just tell me.”

“Chen.” He called her name for the first time. Ye Chen’s heart skipped a beat and she reminded herself. Her name was Chen·Ye.

Wasn’t it very cool?

She should be called Zi Jing Bing Ning^[2] Chen Ye, instead.

That was way cooler.

Her thoughts soon floated back when the other party asked, “Do you love him?”

“Who?”

“Your fiancé, Kyle.”

“Uh…” Ye Chen was in a little difficult situation. She didn’t know how to evaluate her fiancé in front of a stranger. But, then again, the world was very small, there was a chance this person would know Kyle and tell him what she told him tonight. To play it safe, she answered as a matter of fact, “It is my destiny to fall in love with him.”

“Destiny?”

“He is my fiancé, which is equivalent to us bound by a contract. I think I will definitely fall in love with him the moment I see him.”

“Have you seen him?”

The young man’s fist was clenched tight. 

“I’ll see him soon!” Ye Chen was quite pissed with the question and almost blamed him, it’s all your fault.

It’s okay to be idle in the middle of the night, but…

Why are you being chased!

Why do you show up in that alley!

Why do you come at that time!

Why do you have to be the one that arrived first!!!

On top of all of that, why were you lying to her when you get there!!!

When the thought passed on her mind, she became angrier and accused, “Why did you lie to me that you are Kyle?”

“I’m sorry…” He seemed to be very tired and spoke feebly, “I couldn’t help it at the time, I needed your help. ”

“Chen…” His voice became smaller and smaller, “I will definitely… Repay you…”

With that said, he ceased speaking.

If it was not for his breathing, Ye Chen would think he was dead.

He got up to leave. Ye Chen instantly threw her sword hard in front of the young man from the bedside. Her sword stabbed deep to the floor in front of him. She fiercely shouted, “Stop right there!”

Because many readers say they can’t distinguish between male lead, villain, and the tasks, I’ll make it clear to you:

Male Lead: Kyle (Swordsman)

Villain: Elt (Mage, the man saved by Ye Chen. Also Jun Yan and Gu Jianan)

World Line: In his last life, Elt lost everything because of Kyle. After being reborn, Elt has been persecuting Kyle. He forced Kyle’s family to death, Kyle rose up for revenge. Elt couldn’t defeat Kyle and devoted himself to the God of Darkness and planned to destroy the world. 

Task objective: Protect world peace and prevent Elt from destroying the world (Killing Elt is not allowed)

Plan: Let Kyle leave the world and go to the territory of Dragon Cla and become the Dragon Knight. In this way, Elt wouldn’t devote himself to the God of Darkness in order to defeat Kyle. 

Every time the reader said you can’t read it clearly, I was troubled. I clearly feel a very clear storyline…

Ry’s Corner

Because this Arc is Western Fantasy, I won’t be using Chinese terms! Elt is called Shaoye (by the group of killers) and Xiansheng (by the healer) in this chapter, while Ye Chen is called Xiaojie.

From Chapter 30,

“I know you don’t like me. Except for my face, there may be nothing else you like about me… Even Xie Wushuang… Do you prefer him and like him better?”

Jun Yan rubbed his face on Ye Chen’s hand and expressed softly, “But, it’s alright…”

Jun Yan’s wish is to be like Xie Wushuang so Ye Chen will like him better! That’s why you could see the shadow of Xie Wushuang in Elt!

Some strange images flashed through his mind intermittently. He seemed to have seen her a long time ago and he should do this. He should squat in this pile of boxes and wait for that person to find her.

Because when Ye Chen saved Xie Wushuang, he ran away instead of helping! :)
