Arc 6
The Female Lead and the Male Lead Swapped Bodies (6)
The animosity between Shen Ran and Chen Hao was a public secret among the students. The basketball match between them instantly attracted a lot of attention, and soon, the gym became crowded.
There were plenty who admired Shen Ran, and Chen Hao didn’t lag behind on that matter Although Chen Hao was from outside Yingcai Private School and a certified delinquent, his handsome appearance and family’s reputation in Haicheng added a layer of brilliance to his rogue temperament, enchanting his rebellious and unrestrained persona. Therefore, he still had his own fans in Yingcai Private School, waving small flags to cheer for him at the match.
The cheers from their fans directly pushed the competition between Shen Ran and Chen Hao to its peak.
Shen Ran’s sports skills were good. Chen Hao’s skill, as a delinquent who couldn’t stay out of trouble for a day, was comparable to Shen Ran’s. Their team consisted of their familiar persons, which maximized their abilities to play to the fullest. They come and go, chasing, avoiding, dunking, defending, and chasing again…
The scene was exciting and intense, their score kept overtaking one another.
Even Ye Wei had to admit that Shen Ran and Chen Hao, the two brats, were frankly outstanding in terms of family background, appearance, abilities, and so on. Watching them play basketball could be considered as an enjoyment.
“Shen Ran, come on! Shen Ran, fighting!”
“Go, go, Chen Hao!”
“Chen Hao you can do it—!!!”
“……”
Liu Zhenzhen sat on the back bench. She was arguably the calmest one on the field, but she could feel the enthusiasm from watching the lively match. The lively atmosphere nearly drove her to cheer for the boys too.
Good thing she calmed down in time. She coughed softly: she wasn’t going to root for that Shen Ran.
During halftime, Shen Ran approached her, “How is it?”
Liu Zhenzhen: “So-so.”
Shen Ran: “Heh.”
Liu Zhenzhen: “‘Pride leads to destruction, and arrogance to downfall, have you heard it?”
Shen Ran rolled his eyes, “I won’t lose to that stinky brat[1] Chen Hao.”
Chen Hao: “……?” Who’s the stinky brat in your mouth?
————·————·————
By the time the second half rolled, their physical strength had diminished. It may not be as exciting as the first half, but their defense and offense on each other were still intense.
Chen Hao suddenly made a sleight of hand and passed the ball to his right teammate! Shen Ran directly saw through his intentions and stepped forward to intercept it! Unexpectedly, a light flashed before his eyes, and the next moment he switched with Liu Zhenzhen again!
He sat on the bench, while Liu Zhenzhen took his place to intercept the ball!
Bang—!
Liu Zhenzhen was late to react, and she felt her body was light.
To rewind it a bit, she landed on her foot and the basketball hit her head-on. What ensued was a shard pair that made her vision darken and her mind obscure.
‘Shen Ran’ plunged to the ground.
The noise faded from the gym almost right away, even a drop of a needle could be heard.
The onlookers’ minds couldn’t process why, Shen Ran, who they assumed planning to intercept the ball beautifully, made a mistake and even fell!
“What’s going on?”
“Did Shen Ran fall?”
“Woah, Chen Hao is awesome.”
“So Chen Hao defeated Shen Ran?!”
“Is Shen Ran okay? If something happened to him, would our school have to tear down the gym and rebuild it?”
“Shen Ran’s fall sounds heavy…”
“Yeah, I heard that too…”
“……”
The clamor around her, as well as the yellings in her ear, made Liu Zhenzhen understand her situation. She switched with Shen Ran. Regardless, even though she was using Shen Ran’s body, she couldn’t play basketball at all. So, the moment the ball flew over, her reflex failed her. Instead of catching the ball, she froze and got hit by it.
“Ran-ge, Ran-ge? Earth to Ran-ge?”
“Ran-ge, you okay?”
“Ran-ge, do you still recognize me?”
“Ran-ge, what is your bank password?”
Liu Zhenzhen: “……” Is that a question you should ask in this situation? Shouldn’t you guys make haste and send me to the infirmary?
Just as she was speechless, another voice appeared in her ear.
“Shen Ran, Shen Ran, are you okay? Where did you hurt yourself? Brain? Leg? Where did you hurt? Shen Ran? Speak!”
It’s Ye Wei’s.
She could hear the urgency and concern in Ye Wei’s voice. Concern may be faked, but the anxiety, nervousness, and fear due to worry, couldn’t be faked.
She was still a bit groggy, and her vision was still blurred. However, Ye Wei’s voice was exceptionally clear.
After a while, she eventually regained consciousness. She sat on the ground, surrounded by people. Seeing her wake up, they were instantly relieved.
At first glance, she saw Ye Wei kneeling in front of her. It was unknown when she jumped over the railing and rushed down.
Her two round black eyes were staring at her intently, covered in a thin layer of mist.
When she saw her wake up, she breathed a sigh of relief and smiled brightly. Her eyes curved like a crescent moon. She patted her chest, “Thank God you are awake. You scared me to death just now!”\
Liu Zhenzhen: “……”
————·————·————
Shen Ran witnessed Ye Wei’s devotion to “him” for the first time from the perspective of others.
When he found that he switched with Liu Zhenzhen, seeing Liu Zhenzhen get hit by a basketball and getting knocked out, He merely cursed, “Dang, I got hit.”
This kind of disgrace made him want to jump into the Pacific Ocean and never resurface. He couldn’t bear to look at it. Surprisingly, it was because of this turn of the head that he saw Ye Wei, who was still standing in the stands waving flags and cheering in one second, throw the flags on her hand and propped her hand against the railing at lightning speed. She jumped down from a step over two meters high and sprinted towards him— no, not towards him, but Liu Zhenzhen.
“Shen Ran, Shen Ran! Are you okay!”
Her reaction speed was even faster than his teammates on the court.
Shen Ran was somewhat astonished. He knew that Ye Wei often hung around in front of him intentionally or unintentionally, and even threatened Liu Zhenzhen who had a connection with him. She never confessed her feelings to him but he could sense her feelings for him, she did not simply want to stop at being his friend.
But, he never considered that Ye Wei would be so worried about him. Did Ye Wei like him that much?
He saw her face full of worry, kneeling there with her hands tucked. She didn’t know where he was injured and dared not touch him rashly, but it was clear that she wanted to touch him and check on his condition.
He could only take a glimpse at her, because soon, his teammates and friends all reacted and gathered around. Ye Wei was also surrounded in the middle, completely hidden from his sight.
Shen Ran tried to get a better look and leaned in, but he couldn’t see anything at all.
As a powerless and unpopular Liu Zhenzhen, he couldn’t even touch Shen Ran’s feet.
He could only watch helplessly as “he” was carried to the infirmary.
Shen Ran: “……”
Shen Ran: Awesome, a black history he couldn’t erase.
————·————·————
Luckily, Shen Ran’s injury was not a big deal. He only twisted his leg and did not hurt any bones. Two days of recuperation and he would be fine.
Liu Zhenzhen was resting in the infirmary now.
—She couldn’t not rest in the infirmary.
She was afraid that she would be pulled to another basketball match if she took a step out of the infirmary. She was really clueless about basketball, the only she knew was how to dribble in place.
Shen Ran got injured, and the basketball game couldn’t continue. Chen Hao wasn’t the kind of person to take advantage of other’s bad luck. The game was suspended and he would come back when Shen Ran recovered.
“It’s all your fault. If it weren’t for you competing with Shen Ran, Shen Ran wouldn’t have been injured!”
“He was the one stupid enough to catch the ball with his face, why are you blaming me?” Chen Hao crossed his hand on his chest and sneered with disdain.
Ye Wei naturally understood that it was Shen Ran’s mistake that caused the injury, but as a vicious Supporting Female, she was an expert at being unreasonable, “I don’t care, it’s all your fault, it’s all because of you that Shen Ran got hurt!”
Shen Ran in Liu Zhenzhen’s body: “……”
He just wanted to come and check on his body, but accidentally met with Ye Wei and Chen Hao arguing. Couldn’t they choose a more inconspicuous place to argue? Why were they arguing right outside the infirmary?
He was originally shaken that Ye Wei cared so much about him. But now he took a look at Ye Wei’s arrogant and capricious appearance, she seemed to be a completely different person from the previous one. He must have misread it again, right?
He didn’t have the habit of eavesdropping. He initially intended to go straight to find ‘Shen Ran’. Shen Dashao was used to being overbearing, even if he was in Liu Zhenzhen’s body, he couldn’t adjust to her quiet nature.
Chen Hao then added, “This time it’s really not my fault. I didn’t approach him. He was the one that approached me first. You may not be aware of this, but I made a bet with Shen Ran.’
Ye Wei blinked, “How could it be? Why would Shen Ran take the initiative to arrange a fight with you? You even make a bet? What bet?”
Chen Hao priced their secret with a wide smirk, “If you want to know. Beg ah. Beg nicely and I will consider telling you.”
Ye Wei: “……”
Ye Wei: “Don’t be complacent. If you don’t tell me, I’ll ask Shen Ran myself!”
Chen Hao: “Ask Shen Ran? Alright, go ahead. You go ask Shen Ran. It’s best for you to hear him personally tell you that our competition is for Liu Zhenzhen!”
Ye Wei looked at him in shock. She didn’t believe him, “For Liu Zhenzhen? You guys competed for Liu Zhenzhen? How could this be possible? Why does it have to do with that ugly monster Liu Zhenzhen?”
Chen Hao shrugged, “Who knows? Anyway, your darling Shen Ran is really in love with that Liu Zhenzhen. Do you want to know our bet?”
“What’s the bet?”
“If he wins, I won’t trouble Liu Zhenzhen, but if he loses, he’ll be at my disposal! At my disposal, you hear. This is a big bet. Wake up from your dream now, Shen Ran treats Liu Zhenzhen in special way.”
“…………”
“What, don’t believe it?”
“No! Shen Ran wouldn’t have fought you mindlessly for Liu Zhenzhen!” Ye Wei pouted angrily, pointing to Chen Hao.” You scram, don’t let me hear you trouble Shen Ran again! Otherwise, I will be rude to you, you hear me?!”
Chen Hao glared at her coldly and snorted, “I can’t hear you, I’m deaf.”
Ye Wei: “……”
Chen Hao refused to stay here any longer. Ye Wei’s brainless self-deception to others and herself wasn’t an amusing sight to him. He turned around and left, regardless of Ye Wei’s questioning behind him.
Two steps later, he noticed Liu Zhenzhen standing openly on the side in her uniform, without any embarrassment or apology for being caught.
He raised his eyebrows and coincidentally, Ye Wei caught up with him after a few steps. She also saw Liu Zhenzhen, and her expression twisted, “Liu Zhenzhen? Who asked you to come over? How long have you been here? Did you hear everything?”
Shen Ran as Liu Zhenzhen: “……”
Shen Ran was one to reciprocate. The meaner others were to him, the meaner he was to them. “What’s wrong with hearing that? Mind your own business!”
“……”
“I told you, don’t get cocky! Shen Ran won’t like you! “Ye Wei said furiously.” Even if he bets with Chen Hao for you or gets hurt for you, he definitely doesn’t like you! Understand?!”
Ye Wei: Look, look. Shen Ran made a bet with Chen Hao for you. He got hurt for you. Did you see how much Shen Ran cares and cherishes you?
Maybe it was an illusion, but Shen Ran felt that Ye Wei’s gaze at him was… quite strange?
Ye Wei sneered, “You go away. Shen Ran is already asleep. You are not welcome here.”
He then realized Ye Wei looked at ‘him’ with nothing but disgust.

[1] 黄毛 – huángmáo, lit. yellow hair (blonde). Aside from because Chen Hao dyed his hair blonde, 黄毛 is associated with troublesome person because there is one too many second male leads that have their hair dyed blonde acting as a troublemaker or stumble block to the main CP↵

Happy Weekend.
I should start piling up chapters again, but GW Wind is underway, sigh.
“Where did you hurt yourself? Brain?”
I recently rewatched a comedy web drama, Dear Diary (2021). It’s still funny af. Don’t be there for the plot, just enjoy the comedy.
“24-year-old Chen Mei Ru is a member of the internet police force whose personality is withdrawn and eccentric. On her birthday, her only good friend Jiang Hui Zhen plans an extravagant party for her. That night, a man with the appearance of a Babylonian approaches her – he calls himself a prince, one who is born for her. Chen Mei Ru believes it to be a joke, until this “prince” utters his name…
Chen Mei Ru suddenly recalls the unbearable memories of her childhood: the handsome and remarkable prince; the gorgeous love rival, a princess with the power to control wind and rain; the prince’s best friend, an astronomically wealthy man. All of them were characters in a diary that she wrote when she was 12 years old.
The diary’s plot was childish and cliched. Now that this group of three people has suddenly appeared in her life, could it be…these “diary characters” have come to life?”

I am torn between laughing and dying from second hand embarrassment as I have written some of the same lines during my middle school years. Like when the FL is 12 y.o, the icon of at that time was Zhou Jielun and the Babylonian Prince written by the name is named after him, Murong Jielun lmao. There is also Ouyang Wenshan, taken from Fang Wenshan, the lyricists for Zhou Jielun. It really reminds me of some black history of mine lmao
Another addition, the Murong and Ouyang’s surname is just there to make it cooler. If we make comparison, maybe like, James von Dracula.
And the cast, kudos to them for being able to say utter nonsensical lines with straight faces.
